Rumpus Room Dance began in 2006 and is now a self-presenting, 501(c)3 non-profit entity based in Portland, Oregon and Sweden. Rumpus Room is operated by director Rachel Tess. She is responsible for all artistic choices concerning dancers, collaborators, venues and tours as well as choreographing and performing her own works.

The mission of Rumpus Room Dance Company is to develop dance performances unique to the neighborhoods and urban spaces chosen for them. Through collaboration with visual, musical and theatrical artists, Rumpus Room produces site specific dance performances which foster a sense of community and promote dialogue between community residents, leaders and activists. With one foot in Europe and one foot in Portland, Rumpus Room focuses on cultural exchange by creating work locally with an international outlook.
